Speaking Topic List

I offer FIVE DIFFERENT TOPIC PRESENTATIONS about being a primary guardian and caregiver for a parent or other loved one suffering from Alzheimer's Disease or other form of dementia.

Each one can either be presented individually, or as combined segments to fit any allotted time slot. All five topics together take one hour to present. However, if one hour is all the time available, I can customize the length of each segment to allow for Q&A at the end. Allowing for Q&A is usually a highly valuable part of all of my presentations and I am happy to moderate any Q&A afterwards either myself, or in conjunction with a host or other presenter.

Each talk is fully rehearsed and constantly updated with the latest research and developments related to caregiving, Alzheimer's, dementia, aging parents and care treatment options. Each presentation topic is approximately 10-15 minutes in length. I always like to allow 15 minutes for questions at the end because the main reason I started this website and organized my book A Caregiver's Journey the way I did was because I discovered that my biggest gift to other caregivers is giving THEM space to talk.

I've discovered that by being open and honest about my journey as a caregiver, it gives others permission to either raise their hand to ask a question, or to share some of the struggles of their journey as a caregiver for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer's.

As a professional trainer I have given hundreds of presentations to groups of all sizes over the years. As an author I have been on numerous author panels at dozens of book festivals and writers conferences and as the President of Writers of Southern Nevada, I have given numerous presentations on both the creative and business side of professional writing.

The segment topics I present either individually or bundled in any combination together (depending on the allotted time) are:

1. The 5 Rules for Being an Effective Caregiver (15-30 minutes)

2. Is It Dementia or Alzheimer’s? (practical vs. clinical definitions) (10-15 minutes)

3. What To Expect As A Caregiver (15-30 minutes)

4. How To Cope With Being A Caregiver (10-15 minutes)

5. The Stages of Being a Caregiver vs. The Stages of the Disease (10-15 minutes)

Optional sub-topics are:

Timelines for Alzheimer's and Other Forms of Dementia (5 minutes)

The Signs and Stages of Alzheimer's Disease (20 minutes) (summarized in #3 - What To Expect As A Caregiver)

Making The Most Out of The Time That’s Left (10 minutes)

Care Facilities and Treatments (10 minutes)

Pricing

My speaking fees are not outrageous and I am always willing to negotiate with non-profits, other caregiving organizations, clubs and other groups. I am trying to help other caregivers help themselves so that they can anticipate and plan for the changes and challenges they are likely to face.

If the event is outside of the Las Vegas area, travel and lodging expenses may need to be negotiated in addition to a per diem for meals and other expenses.

Regardless of your budget, if you or someone you know is looking for a great public speaker on the topic of being a caregiver for a parent or other loved one suffering from Alzheimer's or other dementia, reach out to me at eric at thecaregivingproject (dot) com and I will be glad to talk with you!

NOTE: I am fully vaccinated from Covid-19 with the Moderna first and second shots. However, if in-person meetings are still problematic for your audience, I am also a Zoom Pro User.
